Default bloody ScanDisk...

Hello,
My friend's computer, running Win98se, starts the " one or more of your
drives may have...........etc." and goes to ScanDisk every time it is
started. After that it works normally.
I've run ScanDisk manually, a thorough scan reports no problems.
Anyone know how to reset this?
DC.
