Default Network not working

I have an XP connected to a 98SE via a crossover cable
XP is the host and I can access the internet form 98 OK
XP shows both PCs but attempting to open 98 gives the following message
"\\ OEMCOMPUTER is not accessible. You might not have permission to use he
network resource. The network path was not found"

98 shows only the heading "entire network" and when attempting to open I get
the following message "Network is not accessible"
I had a problem early in this year but it has worked since then until now.
Any ideas?
Blair
