Default Remove Program name from programs list

Hello
When I go to ControlPanel Add\Remove Programs, I see the name of some
programs there that I have removed their folders before, but now I want
their names to be removed from the programs' list, but I can't. When I click
on "Add\Remove" button, it gives me an error message.

How can I remove these programs from the list?

Thank you
Javad

"Removing their folders" is not the correct way to remove a program.....that is why
they are listed there and give an error when you try to remove them. Programs must
be uninstalled, by selecting them from the Add/Remove Programs list FIRST. Any
folders should not be removed until after that is done, and the computer has been
restarted.

If you removed programs by just deleting their folders, there are many more Registry
entries remaining behind than just the listing in Add/Remove. The best way to
remedy the issue is to reinstall the program, then use its Add/Remove entry to
uninstall it correctly.

Default Remove Program name from programs list

Hi Glee! I had that problem with two programs I loaned out and were never
returned. I too deleted the folders--not knowing then that is not correct.
I later learned about the system programs optimizer via defragging, that
unused(not opened and used) programs will sooner or later be bumped
down(flagged) and eventually deleted by the utility. The programs
disappeared. Am I right Glee?

No, Defrag does not clean out "unused" programs.

Defrag may aid & abet a delete, yea. When a file is deleted, only it's directory entry is altered. The area on the hard drive that holds the file itself is unaltered, BUT it is available for use. Defrag may cause it to be used (over-written), in the course of it's optimization by moving files around. Nothing is deleted by Defrag, but already deleted files become impossible to recover-- except perhaps by the CIA or cquirke. Are you a big enough criminal?

Javad: Can it be the files you deleted are in the Recycle Bin? Get them back out, then, & see whether Add/Remove then works.

Otherwise, you need 3rd Party software to UNDELETE. And the longer you use the computer, the less likely you will get a deleted file back. After Delete, the space occupied by the file can freely be used by the system. As soon as something overwrites it, the file is truly gone.

Defrag may aid & abet a delete by closing gaps on the hard drive or by optimizing it!

Huh?!? No files are deleted, or even modified. Period.

Two related ideas: Defragging after deleting files will make it more
difficult or impossible to recover them, and you will possibly improve
performance of the remaining structures if you defrag after major
reprogramming -- additions, deletions, whatever. But Defrag in NO WAY cleans
up files that remain after a poorly executed uninstall.

OK, I think we just about agree, then. OK, then.

Only, it's possible Defrag will also mess with directory entries & make it doubly difficult to recover deleted files. Not only is the file possibly over-written, but it's directory entry is also cleared/re-initialized. Not sure, though.
