Exclamation No sound drivers.....

As title suggests. Obtained a PC with Win2000 on it, but it wasn't working so replaced with Win98SE, but there is no sound on it now. It has an onboard sound chip set thingy, but there are no sound drivers that i can find anywhere....Looked on cnet and cant find anything that looks OK, googled windows 98 sound drivers and found nothing.....anyone help???

Cheers
Luke

EDIT: Just tried removing device and restarting PC, its just comes up with 'New Hardware Found' (Unknown Device, and also onboad PCI Soundcard) and then searches for the driver, but doesn't find anything on the HDD or the Win98 CD..........

Default No sound drivers.....

You need to get all the info off of the sound chip and use it in your Google
search. A word of caution--do not put all the info on the chip into one
search. If you put in too much information, you might not get a hit. If
you put in too little, you might get so many hits as to be useless.

Default No sound drivers.....

You can install a sound card to replace the soundcard provided by the built
in chipset. In that case, use the BIOS settings feature to disable the
built in soundcard.

And a month later i finally obtain a sound card!

Looked in the BIOS menus when PC started up, but what do i actually need to disable? Cant see anything in there that looks remotely sound related?

The card i obtained is a Yamaha DS-XG PCI - When i stuck it in the PC, windows found new hardware, but again put it as 'Unknown Device' - So downloaded a driver for it, but it still wont work! I assume they cant both be enabled anyway, so probably wont work till the onboard stuff is disabled......

Sorry if it seems a little bit 'stupid' for want of a better word, but i really am not a PC person usually!

Any further help would be much appreciated!

Default No sound drivers.....

What does device manager say about the sound devices?

Did the driver installation go OK?

What is the test configuration (speakers, sound source, etc)?
