Default Jerky playback with WMP9

I use win98SE and windows media player 9. Ihad a hard drive crash and
re-installed windows98se. Now EVERYTHING I play in media player is
jerky, the sound and video are not together and the video is very
jerky.

I have installed every CODEC package that I could find with no change.
Interestingly enough, I just attempted to play a MPG, with Real player
and received the same thing.

I know that these MPG's and AVI's are good videos because they play
just fine on three other computers in the office.

Any help would be appreciated

Gene

Check that 'DMA' is enabled for hard disk and for cd-rom in Device manager. Highlight the relevant drive and choose 'Properties' then 'Settings'. There should be tick-box to enable DMA (Direct Memory Access).
