Default Format not supported-Error 80040265

My operating system is Windows 98.
When I want to play back a DVD or Video CD, I get the following message;
Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported. (Error=80040265).
Why?
How can I get a copy of version compatible to Win 98 or is there a solution
- I need help! - Thank you

You need to install a software DVD Player to play DVD-videos on your PC.
Windows does not come with one. The two most popular are 'WinDVD' and 'PowerDVD'. Also, you will need to have at least a Pentium 500 to get playback without 'jerkiness' , and even then a graphics card with built-in dvd-playback hardware is often required. If you have a pentium 800 or higher, just the software player is all you need.
