Default System Recovery

Every time I try to run "System Recovery" and
select "Recovery Only" from the menu, nothing happens and
the coputer completely freezes.

My computer came with Windows 98 Second Edition. I have
a Hewlett Packard Pavillion 6630 with Intel Celeron
Processor and 10 gig HD. I simply want to restore the
computer to its original state without compromising any
of the programs I have loaded. The "Recover Only" option
was supposed to do that.

If you would rather send the reply to my email, send it

In that W98 doesn't have system recovery, I suspect you are either posting
in the wrong newsgroup or have a third party program.

Listing your email address was a mistake--chances are you are going to get
tons of spam and emails with a virus attached.

The CD you are using was prepared by HP. How the recovery procedure works
and what might go wrong with it are specific to the way that HP prepared
that CD. The procedure you are using is not part of Windows. You might
find someone here who is familiar with the HP system recovery procedure, but
it is more likely that you would have to contact HP to find out what the
process is, whether you are running it correctly, and just what might cause
the problem you are seeing.

Recovery disks like this usually wipe the whole drive and restore the system
to factory standard, so you would need to confirm with HP that the option
you are using works the way you think it does.

I don't open emails from people I don't know so it
doesn't matter.. They can spam me to death and I
wouldn't give a rat's ass. besides. That account may be
closed anyway.
