CD Drive
I've had a long standing problem with my CD drive in Win98 SE.
It started when I installed an additional CD-RW drive, I could no longer play any music CDs. Annoying, but it didn't bother me too much because I was able to use all other CD types. But a few weeks ago I tried to install new CD writing software (Easy CD Creator). After restarting Windows, the system crashed on startup. I needed to start Windows in Safe Mode and uninstall the new program in order to get Windows to restart at all. So now I can't read ANY cd placed in my drives. Windows will recognize a disc is in the drive (doesn't give a "no disc in drive" message) but it will not display any files on the disc. Any suggestions? Remember, I don't have access to my Windows installation CD. |

CD Drive
Easy CD Creator has replaced one of the system files with its own version.
Uninstalling the software does not undo the replacement. You should remove the problem devices from device manager and allow Windows to re-install them. However, without your Windows 98 installation CD this won't work properly. You can probably get a replacement CD on eBay (although it's a while since I looked, and they may be scarce). -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "timob77" wrote in message ...
