Default Installation of game wrecked my sound!!.........

I bought what looked like a good game that was apparently compatible with my pc and installed it and all seemed to go fine until afterwards. When I clicked on the game icon(with the cd rom in drive) it seemed to think something was missing. I then found what seemed to be the extra I needed on browsing the cd(I think it was active x something or other) and installed it but then after restarting my pc I had no sound and the sound and multimedia icons in the control tray were missing. Also my go back feature(which enables me to revert my harddrive to a safe point) had all it's history cleared so I could not revert the drive. I was furious. Anyway I uninstalled the game and installed windows back over itself which gave me my sound back. However when I go to system information, tools, file checker it says that setupx.dll may be corrupt. What on earth is this file? My pc starts up and shuts down fine and has actually been better since so what sould it be on about? (I use win98se.)

If the machine is running OK then you can ignore this report from system
file checker. It is probably occurring as a result of some software that
you installed or uninstalled failing to correctly update the database that
SFC uses.
