Problem Windows menu icons and MS office
Dear Windowers,
I have a problem with my Win98se. The menu icons in the windows upper right corner (minimize, resize and close) have changed into strange icons. Also many programs, like MS office applications (Word, Excel) can not find their fonts anymore. Does anyone know how I can solve this and how this happened, so I can prevent doing it again in the future. Please let me know. Best regards, Wing |

You have a corrupted or missing font. See, for instance:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=134861 Description of and Troubleshooting the Marlett TrueType Font That article also has some general trouble-shooting tips. It seems that either several fonts are affected, or perhaps the whole font folder. The fonts folder should have attributes of +S. The location of the folder and setting attributes is described in the article. To repair the fonts folder and restore all fonts, see: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=234749 How to Restore the Windows Default Fonts -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Wing" wrote in message news Dear Windowers, I have a problem with my Win98se. wrote: Dear Windowers, I have a problem with my Win98se. The menu icons in the windows upper right corner (minimize, resize and close) have changed into strange icons. part of a specific program. Are you talking about the MS Office Shortcut bar or something else? Also many programs, like MS office applications (Word, Excel) can not find their fonts anymore. Does anyone know how I can solve this and how this happened, so I can prevent doing it again in the future. This is just a stab in the dark: Go to word, select Find and Repair (have your installation CD ready because you'll need it). Then when it asks if you want to restore all shortcuts, say yes. See if that helps and report back to the group. |

Believe there's an issue with too many fonts installed as well, which can
cause the same problem. "Jeff Richards" wrote in message ... You have a corrupted or missing font. All the persons who responded,
many thanks for your replies. I am still working on the problem. I forgot to mention a big issue here; which is that I am running English applications (like MS office) on a laptop with a Chinese version of Windows 98. Does anyone can tell me how the problem with fonts and icons occured, so I can prevent it in the future? Please let me know.
