Autoexec.bat disappears
I've had it for years, but now it's gone and when I recreate it, it
disappears as soon as I leave the MS-DOS window. Then I go to Explorer, and create it with notepad. But Notepad says it's already there. Then I see it in Explorer. Then I go to MS-DOS window and it's not there. I type autoexec, and it's a "bad command of file name". Then when I tried to close the explorer window, the computer froze. So, I rebooted and the file was gone. I recreated it again. This time in Explorer. I rebooted and it was gone once more. What do I do to combat this annoying behavior? -- Bill DeShawn http://my.sterling.net~bdeshawn |

What do I do to combat this annoying behavior? Bill, If Notepad says it's already there it might be hidden. To remove the hidden attribute boot to Command Prompt Only and from Dos C:\ prompt enter: Attrib -r -s -h Autoexec.bat Then enter DIR, is it there? If not enter DIR Autoexec.* Also use FIND from Windows and search for Autoexec.* Do you find any others with a different extension in C:\? If so tell us what their full names are. AUTOEXEC.BAT occurs in Win98 only because it was normally used in Win98. (DOSSTART.BAT does its functions better.) Hello, I exactly met the same problem last week!! So i would like toknow if you have found why the file autoexec.bat disappears? Personnaly I use the file autoexec.bat to define the keybord language for MS-DOS (I'm french and my keybord is azerty). I also need this file to define an environnement variable with the command "set" but maybe I could use something else? Thanks a lot "Don Phillipson" a écrit : "Bill DeShawn" wrote in message ...
