Default Pasting small JPGs causes huge Wrd2000 file in goin frm Word 2002

A coilleague is forced to use Word 2000 (...he is only in two days a week on
site). He is working on a Word 2000 text document in Windows 98 that
requires graphics that we create in SPSS PC using Windows XP and export to
*.JPG files.

The Word 2002 file we create to place the *.JPGs in order is only 59Kb.
When my colleague copies and pastes these graphics in sequence from the Word
2002 document, his resulting Word 2000 document bloats from a manageable
150Kb document to 23Mb causing all manner of memory problems on his Windows
98 box.

Why is this happening and what should we do about it? Without any
foreknowledge, we're guessing the problem has something to do with "backwards
compatibility. Still one would think that the newer code of Word would
trump the old and fix this problem automatically. Please explain what
specifically is occuring.

Thank you for your time.

There is probably a simple fix for this, and I suspect it has to do with the fact
that he is copying the images from the already-created Word document
(right-clickSave image), whereas the original Word document is working with the
original .jpg image and may be adjusting the size for insertion into the document.

I suggest you ask the question in a Word group, rather than a Windows 98 group, as
it is a Word issue, not a Windows issue. Be sure to mention exactly how the user is
saving the images for insertion into the Word 2000 document.

Please reply to the newsgroup/forum.
