Default USB drive not visible in My Computer

Win98SE.

I have an 80GB USB drive formatted to NTFS. I installed the drivers that
came with it onto Win98SE. I plug in the drive. P&P recognizes it and I can
see it in the Device Manager. But I cannot see it in My Computer or anywhere
else. I know I will have to reformat it as FAT, but I can't click it
anywhere that will allow me to reformat.

Could it be that it is too big for Win98? I saw something on this site that
64GB was the biggest. If I partition it to two or more smaller partitions,
will it work? If I format it to FAT first, will it show up? Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Bill

Windows 9x cannot see or use a partition formatted as NTFS.

FDISK works with drive numbers, not letters, so the fact that W98 does not
assign a letter to the drive is not relevant to the process of using FDISK
to delete the existing partitioning and creating new FAT32 partitions.
However, you might have a problem getting FDISK to recognise a USB drive or
to delete a partition it doesn't understand. If so, then it might be best
to use the XP machine where you originally created the drive to delete the
NTFS partition. Then use FDISK in Windows 98 to create the FAT32 partition.

Note that you will need to have the latest version of Windows 98 FDISK to
use the full capacity of that drive. See:
