Default start up general failure writing drive c abort, retry, fail? try checker

i not sure how i did this but plaese help i tried
rebooting and hit f8 when the windows 98 screen comes up
and nothing happens HELP!!!

You have suffred a hard disk drive failure of some sort. It may be trivial,
such as a dislodged cable, or it may be more serious. It is very important
that you do not attempt to write anything to the disk drive while it is in
this state, as this will make recovery of data much more difficult.

Check the simple things like BIOS setup (is the drive properly recognised?)
and that the cables are firmly connected, power is OK, etc. Then visit the
www site of your disk drive manufacturer and download the disk drive
diagnostic software. This wil help you to pinpoint where the failure has
occurred, and what the most apropriate recovery procedure is.
