Default Page fault error when reinstalling W98SE on PIII 550MHz

My system crashed and I reinstalled W98SE on the very same system I was using
before. During setup, just after starting creating the devices database, a
window pops up: MSGSRV32 caused a page fault error on kernel32.dll at
0167:bff7d39e (registries contents follow). I tried several times and always
had the same window which BTW blocks the system.
Just for discarding hardware faults, I installed WinXP and it worked fine.
But I need W98. Is there any known issue (don't found any inMS KB) I might be
missing? Thanks!

Are you installing clean or over an existing installation that crashed? If
you are not installing clean, then try installing to a new folder and see if
that helps. There could be something in the old installation that is
causing this problem.

Also, if you are running the installation from a CD, then try copying the
\win98 folder from the CD to your hard drive and then run the installation
from there. If you are running the installation from your hard drive, then
try it from the CD.

These may also be helpful even though they are not specific to your problem.
