windows upgrade 98 second edition

how can i install windows 98 upgrade second edition i have
the cd but not the boot disc how can i get a boot disc for it
and do i have to take off windows 98 first? can someone help
me also how can i get a product key for the cd it never came
with one? and i have called microsoft and every one i
hghave talked to gives me a different answer is there a way i
can use the cd to search for it let me know how.

Hi,

Insert the Win98 CD into a Windows system with a working CD drive, and on
it run, from the Win98 CD - tools\mtsutil\fat32ebd\fat32ebd.exe.
This will make a bootable startup floppy with generic CD support to
use with the drive on your machine to access the CD and Setup windows.

The product key is not contained in the CD. The CD contains an algorithm
that checks the product key you enter to make sure it is valid.

If it did not come with a product key then it may be illegal software. US
customers can contact Microsoft at: 1 800 642-7676. They will issue retail
and OEM product keys after verifying data located on the W98 CD.
