Default Folders won't open in same window

Hi, Win98se recently crashed and rebooted with "Error
loading explorer.exe you must reinstall windows"
I fixed that and a couple other problems by reinstalling
msvcrt.dll, Explorer.exe, Control.exe, Rundll32.exe

Before the crash and reinstallation of these, the folders
would open in the same window and also remember their
settings. Now they won't open in the same window but do
remember their settings. Anyone know of a fix? reg hack or
whatever. I should mention that under 'Folder Options'
the 'open folders in same window' is ticked.

Also 'my computer' on the desktop and Control panel,
printers,my docs via startsettings opens in windows
explorer. Whats up with that? anyone know of solution for
these probs? thx
