Default Windows update and the blue screens

Hi there!
I=B4m having this strange situation: everytime that I try to=20
do Windows update (it doesn=B4t matter if I use the=20
Option "Windows Update" on the menu Start or if I visit=20
the windowsupdate site), my compute crashes and it shows a=20
blue screen, with some errors (OE: 0028: e0690cb5 OD:=20
0246: 014F47FB). I=B4m always forced to use "CTRL+ALT+DEL"=20
and restart the computer. It=B4s a weird situation and I=20
just don=B4t know why is happening all the time that I try=20
to do the update...
I would aprecciate your help. Thank you.

CC,

Do either of the error messages appear on other sites ? Are you
using a 3rd party firewall ?

0E and 0D errors are *usually* tied to driver issues ...

0E - " When occurring in the 0028 memory range, it nearly always
means that a device driver is implicated in the problem. "

0D - " outdated or damaged video drivers, outdated multimedia
software, or physically damaged RAM. "

You should first try the steps for Win ME here :
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319585

NOTE: Under the "Remove the Windows Update ActiveX controls"
heading, for Win ME, the software controls are located in the
WINDOWS\System folder. The info on the above page for their location
is incorrect. Also, go to the WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files
folder, right click Update Class, choose remove. ( IF you have the
software controls for the v.5 WU site, it will be called
" WUWebControl Class ". The other files, located in the
WINDOWS\System folder, will be named WUWEB.INF and WUWEB.DLL. )
