Resource Warning
I am often beset with the warning that I am "dangerously low on
resources". For reasons, far too complicated to explain here, I am currently unwilling to increase my Ram, which is 128 MB. (my chip is 1.3 ghza) I am aware that simply closing some open programs brings me back from the brink (which I monitor with the MS resouce meter).... but the resouces never comeback completely . I usually have around 60% System and User plus about 80% GDI when I boot up the computer and they seem to fall steadily thru the day until I reboot. I would like a source of information on exactly what resources are and if their are any tricks or software programs that will help me manipulate them. Thanks |

Thanks That's one of the drawbacks with Windows ME. You can add physical memory, but you'll always run up against the fixed resources issue. And a memory leak, which many programs have, will kill you. The only way to clear a memory leak, as you have found out, is to reboot. And freeware like Process Explorer, which shows you so much when run under Windows NT/2K/XP, is practically useless under ME. Windows ME is part of the Windows 9x product line, which is a descendant of Windows 3.11/WFW. This article will explain some of the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;112676 Cheers, Chuck Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing. |

Thanks Having only 50-60% Resources available is not a problem at all. You can easily have Resources drop to 10-15% without a problem. When Resources get in the 15% range, it is maybe time to think about shutting down some programs for a while. See here for further info: http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/resource.htm |

Resource Warning
such problems are often caused by spyware - download Ad-Aware from
www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from your system. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp wrote in message ...
