PCMCIA or USB to DB9 serial port adapter
I have a laptop with Win98SE installed. Need to have at least one,
preferably two conventional DB9 (COM1 & COM2) serial ports for certain software to run. The adapter can be either USB or PCMCIA. Would like input on what others have found to be to be a good adapter, compatible with 98. Thanks Vic |

Thanks Vic Vic: Take a look at these: http://www.globalcomputer.com/applic...2&inactiv e=1 http://www.globalcomputer.com/applic...2&inactiv e=1 http://www.globalcomputer.com/applic...4139&CatId=464 I've never used one of these but it seems that USB to RS-232 is just a matter of the right cable. Many of these products are manufactured by Cables Unlimited" http://www.cablesunlimited.com/Index.aspx you can download the drivers and see if they offer a Win 98 driver. BTW the prices seem HIGHER if you order direct from Cables unlimited?? These "cables" are active, not passive, ie they have "onboard, proprietary circuitry under the DB9 hood [which] guarantees 100% compatability with all serial RS-232 devices". http://www.globalcomputer.com/applic...?Sku=B131-5002 - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

The prices are comparable to plain old cables and, I think, that is what mislead me. Thanks.
