ws2_32.dll
You can replace ws_32.dll with a new copy from the Win Me cab set.
ws_32.dll is contained in WIN_16.CAB of the Win Me cab set and can be restored using MSConfig | General | Extract File ... and following the prompts. The "cab" files are in the Win9x folder on the Win Me CD and normally also in either Windows\Options\Cabs or Windows\Options\Install. See MS KB 265371 - "How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=265371) for details of how to extract files from the cab set. ws_32.dll belongs in the windows\system folder. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Ryan wrote: I keep getting the error message.....NDetect has detected and error with ws2_32.dll....This is also happening once i try to launch internet explorer....I have Norton System Works 2003 but it has been on there for a long time...I do not know of anything new that was added....Please help! |

I am trying to replace ws2_32.dll. I do not know if there
is a difference from ws_32.dll. I tried the instructions you gave but all i got was an error message saying that the file is being used by wondows and cannot be overwritten. Any other suggestions for me to try or did i do something wrong? -----Original Message----- You can replace ws_32.dll with a new copy from the Win Me cab set. ws_32.dll is contained in WIN_16.CAB of the Win Me cab set and can be restored using MSConfig | General | Extract File ... and following the prompts. The solution is identical because what you have spotted is a typo when I
made my reply five days ago. Where I typed ws_32.dll I should, of course, have typed ws2_32.dll. What you did wrong, and I seem to have omitted to explicitly mention in my earlier post, is that to replace ws2_32.dll you have first to boot to Safe Mode since this is a file protected by Win Me's system file protection mechanism. This is explained in the Knowledge Base article to which I referred KB 265371 - "How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=265371). -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Ryan wrote: I am trying to replace ws2_32.dll. In which case may I again suggest you read KB 265371 and follow the
instructions on how to replace a protected file from DOS. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP wrote: I was in safe mode and it still woulod not allow me to replace the file |
