Really Big Start up problem
Hello, everyone.
Windows 98SE pc will not start up. I get the screen Checking NVRAM (16mb shared memory used) hit del to exit setup. That IS as far as start up goes. .. . .shuts down (electrically). I have noticed the fan inside isn't working. (i've already taken off casing, unplugged cd rom drives (2)). ANY ideas are so welcome and I anticipate your replies. REspectfully, SandyMann |

Really Big Start up problem
Windows 98SE pc will not start up. I get the screen Checking NVRAM (16mb shared memory used) hit del to exit setup. That IS as far as start up goes. and, your reason for 'hit del to exit setup' is? what happens if you let it run that course? do you get taken to some sort of options/'decision making' screen? . . .shuts down (electrically). I have noticed the fan inside isn't working. okay, as with all computers, if you notice someting hardware not working, and you are sure, (in your case, fan is Not working) then replace faulty part,,,,,, also investigate the circumstances...... like, is the fan rooooooley old? is its use-be-date up? and etc (i've already taken off casing, unplugged cd rom drives (2)). what happened after you took the above measures??? surely you didnt just do it to see if you could yodel in the key of FsharpMajor??? btw,,, Which fan was/is it that is/isnt working??? What sort of CPU do you have? is it an AMD? is it INTEL? is it even there? I will be simple if you will simpleton A non-working fan suggests a faulty power supply. Get the fan working, then go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and create a Windows 98 boot floppy. Use it to start the computer in question, select "Start with CD support", insert your Windows 98 CD, type "setup" and press "Enter". You may have to reinstall all your third party applications. Ben |
