Default ME: Reformat in DOS and reinstall from recovery discs HELP!!!!!

I am running eMachine etower 667ir
Win Me
intel celeron processor
667MHZ
64 MB of sync DRAM
256 MB Max
3D AGP
Graphic intel direct AGP

First I caught trojan horse download.keenval.e,c and b
in C:/_restore/temp. Turned off system restore and healed by removal.
My display settings are messed up and showing very little info in device
manager.
When I try to boot up in normal mode My Monitor blacks out
but the brain continues....(can use Safe mode only)
So I decided to completely restore system with recovery discs. Plenty of
error messages.
1) 0X0B read default (I click abort)

2)Single user version cannot do multiple loads (I click ok)

3)Critical error: 0X00 Attempt to write to a write protected disc (I
click abort)

4)Cannot open Ghost.ERR (I click ok)

5)Invalid file dump if problem persists contact ......
_____
Computer tech. said I need to reformat in DOS and then restore system.(he
wants $35 to look at and $85 and hr at approx. 6 hrs of his time)
That is where my head starts spinning!!!!
Please advice on steps to reformat and reinstall from recovery cds that
came with system.

Shame you disabled system restore as in so doing you threw away your lifebelt.
That fact that the archive contained a trojan is immaterial since it was
entirely dead whilst located there. Malware in the restore archive is only a
problem if you choose to restore to a checkpoint created after infection and
before cleansing. In future either don't disable system restore and just let
the malware decay like the rest of the data in the archive or better, clean
the system bar the restore archive and then, but only then, reset system
restore to clear the archive and create a new reference system checkpoint.

As for the rest of your problems these appear to be related to the proprietary
OEM recovery disks you are using and have nothing to do with the operating
system. I would strongly recommend you to contact the computer manufacturer
as they have entered into a contract with Microsoft and are obliged to provide
you with full support. Use it.

When you get your other problems sorted out post back and we'll see if we can
get your system restore back on the road.

OMG, All I had to do (after a week of pulling out my hair) Is disconnect
the cd-rom and connect the burner only so that the burner could read the
disc. So my cd-rom must be bad. WoW!!
I sure appreciate your help!

Well that's good news I guess. Shame that neither of us thought to check your
CD drive earlier which would have saved you a lot of anguish. :-(

Cheers and thanks for the feedback.

Regards,
