Win 98 SE Installation from DOS
I recently had to replace my harddrive on my dell desktop and so I'm
starting over from scratch. I have the original bootdisk but only a copy of my 98se cd (i have the other, but its scratched beyond imagine). Anyway, I've installed the harddrive successfully (using the western digital software) and when i run the bootdisk it goes through the whole process and then I'm left with A:/ on the DOS screen. What do I do next? I've tried everything I can think of but I can't get any further. I'm sure this its something simple, I'm just clueless when it comes to DOS. Thanks! Pearly |

The following should work.
PS: During boot up note the drive letter for your CDROM. At the A: prompt type the following: E:\win98\setup (and hit enter) Note: E: has to be the drive letter of your CDROM. If different use what appeared during boot up. -- Jon Hildrum DTS MVP www.hildrum.com "Pearly" wrote in message ups.com... put finger to keyboard and composed: The following should work. PS: During boot up note the drive letter for your CDROM. At the A: prompt type the following: E:\win98\setup (and hit enter) Note: E: has to be the drive letter of your CDROM. If different use what appeared during boot up. You can use the following one-line command to find the drive letter (watch the word wrap): for %%i in (d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z) do if exist %%i:\win98\setup.exe echo CD drive letter is %%i If for any drive you get the following error, then type "F" to proceed. Not ready reading drive ... Abort, Retry, Fail? Note that you will see the above error if you don't have a CD in the drive. -- Franc Zabkar Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |
