Default Restrictions prevent networking

Trying to re-stablish a network between my P4 XP Pro and my PIII W98 SE. I
had this working then swapped the master drive over in the PIII and now when
I try to run the XP Networking disk it says I can't because of restrictions
placed on the computer and to see my system administrator.

How do I overcome this.

Generally this happens when you click the Cancel button instead of logging
on properly when the Windows 98 networking logon window appears.

Thanks Richard, but there was no Network Logon window. Since I posted the
earlier question I've been fiddling around and at one stage it said the
network card was not installed. I swapped it for another one and when I
loaded the driver disk it asked for the W98 CD to be put in the drive, then
came up with a whole heap of dll's it couldn't find on the CD. In desparation
(if windows can't find it on the CD how am I supposed to?) I cancelled out
and oddly enough I now have full networking again. I suppose some time down
the track something won't work because of the missing Dll's.

I'll never understand Windows.

If this network card has ever been installed, then it's likely that the
files are still there even though the installer asked for them. If the
files were Windows networking files, then they would be there from your
earlier network installation so as long as the files were not corrupt, they
did not actually need to be added again.

For future reference, when a device installer cannot find the files that it
needs on the Win98 CD, then point it back to the installation CD from the
manufacturer. If they are found here, this is an indication of a poorly
written installation program by the manufacturer of the device. Often an
installation will take a few files from the Windows CD, then a few files
from the device driver installation CD and then back to Windows CD, etc.

If it's working now, there's no reason that it will quit working down the
road.
