MS-DOS Installation
My brother's system crashed, so. . .my other brother wiped
out the hard drive. I now have the pleasure of fixing their mess. I have been working on this for almost a week, and everything I try works up to the point of setup of Windows 98 version 2. When I get to this point the *#%! system gives me an error reading - "CDR101: Not ready reading drive F." I have followed the fdisk/format instructions to the "T" and I am still getting this error. In Help, it states to copy the windows folder from floppy/CD-Rom to c: drive. I am working in ms-dos and there seems to be no instructions on how to highlight or mark the win98 directory (or the entire install/setup files) in order to copy it to c:. Does anybody know how to correct this, get around this, or should I just throw the stinkin' pc off a bridge? If you can help Puhleez do so - I've had a migrane for 4 days now. |

Ed, Ed, or Eddie,
You have a problem with the msdos access driver for the cdrom. And how do use standard msdos commands. Continue your medication. "Mona" wrote in message ... The problem seems to be that your CDROM drive or your Windows 98 CD is
defective, assuming that you have put it in the drive before you begin this process. -- Richard G. Create orr download a new startup disk.
This can be done from any Win-98 machine. From within Windows: 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 3. On the Startup Disk tab, click Create Disk. Follow the instructions on the screen. 4. Write protect the floppy disk, then test it to make sure it works. Or one can be downloaded here. Bootdisk.Com: http://www.bootdisk.com/ Then follow this. Put your start up floppy in and turn your pc on, select start with cd-rom support, now at the A prompt look just above it for your cd-rom letter if it was D it will be E. What you need after that will look like this. A:\e: Hit enter E:\setup: Hit enter Now you should be able to just follow the dirrections, sit back and let Windows do the work. Make sure you have your Product Key Code. -----Original Message----- My brother's system crashed, so. . .my other brother wiped out the hard drive. I now have the pleasure of fixing their mess.
