I'm going to prison for Windows 98

My attorney said that I will likely get 1 to 2 years and a $10,000 fine. I will not get my computers back either. Did you ever read Bill Gates' 'open letter...'? http://www.blinkenlights.com/classiccmp/gateswhine.html Microsoft's stance on software piracy isn't a new development. I thought Windows 98 was obsolete and it would not matter how many computers I installed it on. Antique software piracy? Besides they are all my own computers. My desktop, my laptop, and my newer desktop that dual booted to Win98 and Vista. I did a similar thing once (98 upgrade on one, 98 upgrade and Linux Mandrake on the other), but had enough 98 and wfw3.11 genuine full install CDs lying around to cover having two upgraded 98s running on two computers at the same time. ...and Bill, if you're reading this, those systems are long gone now - so, no need to come-a-knocking. I just wanted to let everyone know that MS is still prosecuting pirates, even for something as old as Win98. I suppose they still *can*. [...] Oh come on now you must know the OP was just trolling |

I seriously dread having ever used any MS software. When I get out of prison, I will purchase a Macintosh computer so I never have to use any MS software again. Yeah right! Do you expect someone to believe this story? It too absurd to comment upon. PS: Be sure to stock up on "Soap-on-a-rope"... I hear the Linux gangs in computer prison are really brutal. They'll have you working on the command line all day! Especially the Ubuntu gang. The Iowa chapter will make you wish you never heard the word "compile".. So I've heard! There is a kernel of truth to what you say... ;-) |

CD-ROM support. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126746 No Win 3.x might have ever been "shipped" with installation CD's. |

I had a Packard-Bell, two Gateway 2000s, and a Compaq. 1 Win95 cd, 2 DOS6.22/WFW311 cd's, a W98 (full install) cd, and a W98 Upgrade cd. I felt confident that having the two Gateways running the Win98 upgrade version was *legal* since I had enough CDs around to have gotten there along another upgrade (or full install) path. It just so happens that I still have the cd-roms (but not the computers - which I sent down the recycling stream. Here's a photo of one of them. http://hostphotofree.com/?bookmark=30671 |
