Temp Files, JPEG, Bad image file
Windows ME, which I am not familiar with.
Helping someone out, they go to a web forum were photo images are shared. One specific photo image, hosted by third party and linked by IMG command in message thread (BBcode), causes computer to lock up. I am convinced that at some point a bad JPEG file was downloaded and every time end-user wants to view the thread, this bad file is called up as a local version of the file. Thus the computer locks up every time. I have tried to get the end-user to delete all temp files in various places, but we cannot locate any temp JPEG files. I am running out of ideas where to look. Where are MS IE 6 temp JPEG files from the internet located? C:windows\temp? BTW: other posters at this forum who use picturetrail.com for image hosting are displayed OK by the ME computer, and if the photo is copied to a different sub-folder at the poster's site all is ok. It is just the link to that specific photo image that locks up the computer. Other computers, like my XP home computer, who view that photo have no problem. Also useful would be a hint on how to force all image files and Internet Temp files to reload. Have tried IE 6--Tools--Internet Options--Internet File Options--settings--select "every visit to page". No help. If you need more info, please let me know. TIA Phil |

If Temps files is the one that you suspect, Microsoft suggests an alternate
method which is move your Temporary Internet Files folder to another location, delete the old folder, and then (if you want to) move your Temporary Internet Files folder back to the original location. http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q301057 -- Jonybrv "Phil S." wrote: Windows ME, which I am not familiar with. Hi,
Clearing the cache (Temporary Internet Files) from Internet Options General Delete Files should eliminate a damaged JPG. It wouldn't hurt to go one step further and delete the TIF folder. Create a bootdisk from Add/remove programs Startup Disk. Insert the WinMe bootdisk and restart, select: Minimal from the menu From A:\ (type and press Enter after each command) C: cd \windows smartdrv deltree tempor~1 When you press ENTER after typing the deltree command, you should be prompted to confirm that you want to delete the folder. Confirm with "Y" When finished, eject the disk and restart via Ctrl-Alt-Delete. If pages, files, images aren't refreshing, deleting the TIF folder may fix this also. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE/OE] "Phil S." nospam-m-phil-NoSpam[at]one two three m-a-p-s.net wrote in message ... Windows ME, which I am not familiar with. Thanks to both of you for your response.
Will try the MS KB this weekend. Thanks. Again Phil "Jonybrv" wrote in message ...
