I use UltraEdit (but not for html, I don't write html g) but my
daughters also use TextPad. Word Perfect for DOS was a FANTASTIC program and v5.2 truly rocked. To be honest other than for some graphics manipulation I don't think that anything useful has been added to any WP application in the last 12 years or so that 5.2 for DOS couldn't do and do well. WP's problem was that they were late in moving to using the Windows GUI instead using their own interface. The original WP Corp from Orem, Utah then got bought by Novel who seemed to destroy the product and there was a dire v6 build for Windows that ughhhhhhhed. Corel then stepped in and v8 was launched as a quite decent product that ran well using the Windows GUI but by then Word had picked up the ball that had been dropped by Corel and has never looked back. Sad really and resulted as in so much of the office area with Microsoft Office products dominating. Just look at how Excel now rules the roost with 1-2-3 no longer to be seen. 10 years ago it was the reverse. e-mail or ring me if you are interested in older versions of WordPerfect although I can no longer find my old 5¼ floppies with various versions in the 4 range (4, 4.1 and 4.2). -- Mike Shane wrote: Mike, Yes, I've been using EditpadLite for years, but for a long time *not* for html. Jim Eshelman's always sworn by it for html though, and when I finally tried it I could see what he meant. I wouldn't use Notepad though. Incidentally, a year or two ago I was reading up on the history of DOS and got a very favourable impression of Word Perfect from that. I'd like to try the Windows version. I bet it doesn't come in at c. 200MB like Word either! |

Sometimes I toy with the idea of installing it, but like probably most people, I'm adjusted to the Microsoft stuff and it seems too much of an investment in time to go in another direction. e-mail or ring me if you are interested in older versions of WordPerfect although I can no longer find my old 5¼ floppies with various versions in the 4 range (4, 4.1 and 4.2). Thanks, Mike. I appreciate the offer. Shane |
