Heirloom, old and dirty "Bill Sumrall" wrote in message ... Heather, I had posted about having problems with the 5.1.011.000 version relating to a file "VSDATA95.VXD". Mart mentioned ZoneAlarm using that file. I had other problems with a sound card driver (not related to ZA - I don't think). Disabled the sound card driver - not needed anyway. Sound is good without it. Uninstalled ZA Pro and reinstalled it and have nothing but good things to say about it. Thanks for the detailed explanation, Mart. I do like to keep on top of
problems with ZA.....coz they don't give a darn, grin!! Took Heirloom and I a long time to get them to admit version 3.xxx messed up Auto Restore points some 2 years ago. Took them another year to fix it. Things like you describe are usually not attributable to the source of the problem....and they don't seem to start immediately, do they. I will keep an eye out for any other posts re problems on other groups and I will continue to stay at least 2 back of the *latest and greatest* version of ZAPro. I am at 4.5.538 and plan on staying there for a year or so, grin. Cheers....Heather "Mart" wrote in message ... Heather, as you are keeping tabs on ZA - and for the ZA "problems" record - you may remember, I (clean) installed the 'free' version of 5.1.011 on my XP box when it very first came out at the end of July. However, several days later, I began to get frequent 'Proxy Desktop' errors, and other weird 'happenings' (couldn't open Explorer, problems shutting down, etc.). I didn't associate ZA to the problems in spite of a great deal of unproductive web searches. Eventually I noticed a little ZA warning window fly past on my screen, advising of an issue (can't remember the exact wording) with their ZATrueVector Security engine - whatever that is g AND I had also noticed the PC taking longer and longer to boot. So I took that warning box as an opportunity to uninstall ZA. Bingo! PC booted normally, 'Proxy Desktop', Explorer and shut down issues cleared up immediately. Left it for a few days, re-installed the same free version of ZA and all has remained stable for the past three weeks or so. The moral of the story being - if you 'suspect' ZA of causing an issue, uninstall it an see if things improve - then re-install and see if the problem stays away g No idea what was happening but this 'experience' *might* be useful to someone. I've put SP2 on since (still running ZA and all remains well). When it works, ZA works good!! Mart "Heather" wrote in message ... Works perfectly here and the Win Me box is creating system restore checkpoints like clockwork. :-) Oh, and ZAPro 5.1.011 is causing no problems here either on the three XP boxes on which I have it also installed. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Heather wrote: DON'T TOUCH IT!! Sheesh!! Seriously, I have seen nothing good about version 5 at all. Seems to cause problems (what else is new). And I assume these people are XP users. |
