Default AGP Status Disabled

Hi....

Have had a problem with games and video not giving quality or definition,
and I notice that 'Everest & Aida' both state that my AGP is disabled.
I dont see how this is possible as everything else relating to graphics
on my computer works. I have checked everywhere in the BIOS to see
if anything reflected this. I found that the 'Video Ram Cacheable' was
disabled so enabled I it, but Everest still states AGP is disabled.
Here is what everest says under the 'Motherboard, Chipset' heading::

AGP Controller
AGP Version 2.00
AGP Status Disabled
AGP Device nVidia GeForce2 MX/MX400
AGP Aperture size 64
Supported AGP speeds 1x, 2x, 4x
Fast-Write Not Supported
Side Band Addressing Supported, Disabled

Anyone got any ideas on this one??
(I also have a similar spare agp card the only differences between the two
being; one has a fan on it the other has large heat sink; one has video
out
for using telly as screen... Both cards get the same msg from Everest.
oh, the drivers for the card(s) are latest current drivers)

Thanks

Happen to encounter the same situation, H, but the *remedy* involves a
*major operation* and must be quite costly, too.
So far I have experienced few of the mentioned *drawbacks* in this case,
probably because I don't use it's features all that much.
Is there an easier way to accomplish the same results?

Harry.

I'm no guru on the subject, I have always been fortunate enough to have the
machine recognize what I put in there and it did not require going into the
BIOS, messing with the motherboard, etc. A Google search for "enable AGP"
brought that site up, along with a multitude of others. Surely, there must
be something there that would help.

You've got to click on the right link(s) in order to get *there*.
Try it sometime.
By now I have registered for their forum and posed my question there,
because simply updating my driver didn't help.
Will let you know, as soon as I do. H.

Glad you enjoyed talking.

Have just come from VIA's site.
Downloaded the latest chipset package.
Ran SetUp but got this Error msg:::
"Unhandled Exception,
Error Number - 0x80070725,
Description - Incompatible version of the RPC Stub,
SetUp will now terminate"

Have 'joined' Via forum and posted there, but forums sometimes
take a while.
Do you know anything about RPC Stub?

Description - Incompatible version of the RPC Stub,

All Fixed...............
I remembered a similar Stub Error from around 10months ago,
it was to do with a system file called 'oleaut32.dll'.
I replaced it just now with a back-up copy I kept, then ran the
Via chipset SetUp and voila, my AGP is now Enabled.
Am happy.
