ACTIVEX PROBLEMS
There are m-a-n-y with my Dell PII 233 Mhz.
Another site is working hard to help me resolve them, but thus far, no soap...one thing I've been assured of is that I have some pretty heavy-duty nasties bogging my admittedly old system down...but two major sites to which I've been pointed (emsisoft.com & http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/pestscan/) can't get untracked because I'm told that ActiveX isn't installed on my system. I've checked and rechecked and rechecked my Internet and Trusted Sites settings as prescribed on JFitz's page to no avail. Can someone help?? THANKS!! Goobmeister -- ALL ABOUT ME/goobmeister |

ACTIVEX PROBLEMS
This may be due to a recent security update from Windows Update, which disbaled the
installation of ActiveX controls through Internet Explorer = MS06-013: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=912812 quote After you apply this security update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 in Microsoft Windows 98, in Microsoft Windows 98 SE, or in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, you may be unable to install new ActiveX controls from Internet Explorer. Microsoft plans to address the issue in the next Internet Explorer Cumulative Update. Until that time, customers may install the ActiveX control from a separate installation source that does not use Internet Explorer. /quote Whether or not there will actually be another cumulative update for IE6 SP1 for Win98/98SE/ME, I do not know. Try Xenomorph's "fix" here to temporarily disable the update while installing the ActiveX controls: http://xenomorph.net/misc/legacy.php AFAIK, you will have to reinstall the update to close the security hole after installing the ActiveX controls in question. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "goobmeister" wrote in message ... ACTIVEX PROBLEMS
Note: It appears that if you uninstall MS06-013: Cumulative security update for
Internet Explorer (KB912812), when you go to WU to reinstall it, instead you will be shown the current update, which supersedes it: MS06-021: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=916281 -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "glee" wrote in message ...
