proof of ownership
I lost everything on my older PC and am trying to reinstall ME with an
upgrade disk. I have nothing to prove ownership of Win98 except the Product Code of the Win98 upgrade disk and a WinME startup floppy disk. Is it possible to get proof of ownership with these numbers? Also I have always registered my products, so there should be records somewhere. thanks -- |

proof of ownership
I also have the Product code for the WinME upgrade disk.
The hard drive I am using was a secondary and has no system files. I tried the Base2.Cab, but still can't get past the proof of ownership of Win98. "kbg" wrote in message ... proof of ownership
No, if you disk is an 'Upgrade' version then the proof required is either a)
an already installed version of an earlier Windows OS, b) an installation CD of an earlier version of Windows or c) the set of floppy disks of an earlier version of Windows e.g. Win3x. (BTW - not too sure but it *might* even accept DOS 5 or 6x floppies) It needs to 'see' the physical disk(s) to check for certain files. There is no provision for serial/product/registration numbers at that point in the installation. The (new) Product Key is required later in the installation process.
