INSTALLING ME PROBLEM
Please help. I tried to change the cd drive to a different
one because the one on the pc wasn't reading well. When I changed it, I didn't have the correct software so it didn't work. Then, I tried to install the old one back on, but I don't have the software that came with it anymore. I thought that reformatting the C drive might help but it didn't. Now I can't install ME because it cannot read ME from the CD drive. I don't know what else to do. HELP! thanks. |

INSTALLING ME PROBLEM
You shouldn't need to install anything to get Win Me to recognise and use a
CD-ROM. Since you say you have formatted your hard disk your problem is now nothing to do with the operating system since you don't have one installed but rather is almost certainly a hardware problem of some sort. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP sam wrote: Please help. That's a little too confusing for me (and you too apparently), but... do you have an Emergency Boot Disk on hand? (the floppy disk you created when you first installed Windows ME). If you don't, go to www.bootdisk.com and download one (the WinME OEM floppy is fine). Start your machine from the floppy disk, choose CD support, can you *see* your CD here? we're not talking about a USB CD drive are we ? Rick |

INSTALLING ME PROBLEM
Yes, I have the bootdisk. I tried that but even if I
start the installation with cd support, it cannot read the cd from the drive so first off, I think I need to fix something so that the computer can recognize the drive but I don't know how or where to start. No, this is not a USB cd drive. -----Original Message----- sam wrote: Please help. I tried to change the cd drive to a different one because the one on the pc wasn't reading well. INSTALLING ME PROBLEM
Your problem is with your hardware. Fix that and you should have no problem.
You say you have swapped CD-ROMs. Check that you fitted the cables correctly, remembering to check both ends of the ribbon cable, that is at the CD-ROM end and also where it plugs in to the motherboard. Check that if you have two drives on the same ribbon one is set as master and the other as slave (unless using Cable Select). -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Sam wrote: Yes, I have the bootdisk.
