I have been getting a pop up message supposedly from
Microsoft. It says there are critical updates available
and I can view them now or 24 hours later it would remind
me again. It says it recommends viewing now.I of course
didn't do anything yet and visted the Windows update site
and it said no updates at this time.Having visited this
Newsgroup site a few times I know never to click on
anything that is suspect. My question is, have you heard
about this before? If you have what is it?I have HP 600
mhz 10.2 GB and I have pop up blockers and ad blockers and
spybot. I'm not used to something like this. I appreceiate
any help. Thanks,

There are 2 new security updates according to Emily F [MSFT]. See her =
recent posts, 1 before yours and 1 after on:
Today, Microsoft released the following Security Bulletin:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms04-023.mspx
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-023
Vulnerability in HTML Help Could Allow Code Execution (840315)

and

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-024
Vulnerability in Windows Shell Could Allow Remote Code Execution =
(839645)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms04-024.mspx

You may not see it at the MS Update site as both articles state under =
Affected Softwa
quote
Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), and =
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) - Review the FAQ section of =
this bulletin for details about these operating systems.
/quote

I haven't read them yet, but it may be like the last one where you can =
manually apply it and in a few days it may be available for 98 from MS =
Updates. BTW, the notice you get should be legit, the caution you take =
is just as legit especially in today's times. If it were in an email it =
would be an instant delete. Have a read of the articles to get the info =
on them.

WinUP site will not work with popup blockers, some anti-virus,
some firewalls, AOL, Netscape, and a host of other things you
may also have set wrong.
