Windows ME Saving Picture File Problem
After a recent re-install of ME, my system will not permit
me to save pictures or animations with a variety of file extensions. Prior to re-install, right clicking on a picture from the WEB I could "SAVE PICTURE AS" jpeg, bitmap, gif, jpg, and many other types. Now I am only allowed to save as bitmap or art files which will not preview nor can be viewed. I have deleted TIF files from Internet properties with no change. Whats up, anybody got a fix? |

Clear out your Temporary Internet Files folder and then try saving the
pictures again. You can do that as follows: Control Panel | Internet Options and then use the Delete Files button on the General tab. Check the box "Delete all offline content" that then pops up and click OK and then OK again. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Shell/User wrote: After a recent re-install of ME, my system will not permit me to save pictures or animations with a variety of file extensions. I have cleared my TIF's several times as you instructed
with no fix. I went to the site that you provided http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=810978 I am reluctant to delete Downloaded Program Files that are not flagged as either UNKNOWN or DAMAGED. All of the files are flagged as installed. If I delete these files as the web page suggests, what adverse affects will this have to my system operation, and the operation of other programs that are critical? Is it safe to delete files? How will I obtain these files again if the deletion causes other operating problems? Thanks for your assistance. Will,
See in line. "WildWillJAX" wrote ... I have cleared my TIF's several times as you instructed I didn't "instruct", I "suggested" a possible solution and posted details of the KB article supporting that suggestion. :-) Regrettably it appears your problem lies elsewhere. with no fix. All of the files are flagged as installed. If I delete these files as the web page suggests, what adverse affects will this have to my system operation, and the operation of other programs that are critical? None. Is it safe to delete files? Yes. Hence the reason why this is included in the KB article. How will I obtain these files again if the deletion causes other operating problems? If and when required you will be prompted to download a control again when visiting a site that requires that control to be installed on your PC. For instance, the Update Class control when you next visit the Windows Update site. You can see some details of the various controls you have installed by right clicking on the various entries in the Downloaded Program Files folder when using Windows Explorer. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Thanks for your assistance.
