spyware or virus on my computer
While I am connected to the Internet I keep seeing this
pop up (I am using Yahoos pop up blocker but it still pops up anyway) it just says "Microsoft Internet Explorer" in the title bar but when I go to delete History I always see "http://xadso.offeroptimizer.com" then a slash and a copy of every URL from every page or e-mail account I have visited. There is also a program called "Websavings from Ebates" that is in my Add/Remove Programs list but when I try to remove it I get the following error: "ERROR: Could not execute Main: The system cannot find the file specified" When I right click on any page on the net above Properties is listed "Web Savings" how do I get these off?? Then when I do a search for them on my computer it never shows up. I have a Spy Ware program from Norton called "SpyKiller" and I ran it and it said "No suspicious files found" but I know its on here. I also ran Norton Anti-Virus and it said "No viruses found" What should I do? |

Rather than paying good money to Symantec may I suggest you instead use the
better free non commercial products that are available for finding and removing spyware and other commercial malware. Few commercial companies are going to market reliable tools to remove the products of other commercial companies for fear of litigation. It would appear you need to cleanse your system of unwanted commercial any scumware and malware. See Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm For details of the scumware from WebSavings and how to remove it see http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner...gs/index.phtml This would be a good time to download yourself a copy of the free Ad-Aware 6.0 from Lavasoft (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and also SpyBot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/) and use them to check your system for other commercial parasites remembering that they are only as good as when you last updated their reference files. I also use a program called BHODemon (http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm that checks for unwanted Browser Help Objects and SpywareBlaster (http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareblaster.html) which can help prevent some parasites getting a grip on your PC. Then there is CWShredder (http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip or http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip) which is the best way of getting rid of the many forms of the CoolWebSearch hijacker details of which can be found at http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html and also http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/c/cws.asp.. Finally if you still continue to experience problems download a copy of HijackThis from (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html). Create a folder called hijackthis on C: and copy the file you downloaded to that folder. Close as many applications as you can including all instances of Internet Explorer and then run hijackthis.exe and post back the log as a new thread to the HijackThis Forum at http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/ and hopefully this will enable someone to identify the cause of your problem. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Andria wrote: While I am connected to the Internet I keep seeing this pop up (I am using Yahoos pop up blocker but it still pops up anyway) it just says "Microsoft Internet Explorer" in the title bar but when I go to delete History I always see "http://xadso.offeroptimizer.com" then a slash and a copy of every URL from every page or e-mail account I have visited.
