Help to install drivers
I tried install USB to RS-232 converter driver(USB to UART Bridge driver
that required for RFID device). Device come with drivers, can be downloaded from manufacturer's site. I'm not sure it will work on Windows 98SE. I just think it should work. CP210x Windows Driver v4.40 Copyright (C) 2007 Silicon Laboratories, Inc. USBDriver's folder contain a lot of files: ---- x64 folder x86 folder P210xVCPInstaller.exe ReleaseNotes.txt setup.ini stabbus.cat stabbus.inf slabser.cat slabw2k.inf ---- I tried run P210xVCPInstaller.exe application, but when run, it show "Error starting program" (CP210XVCPINSTALLER.EXE file is linked to missing export SETUPAPI.DLL:CM_Get_First_Log_Con..), probably not work on win 98. I tried install drivers by attaching device to USB port, this launch "Add New Hardware Wizard", the steps require specify which drivers install, and where to get it from, then insert CD or floppy, or specify files location, as drivers are in folder, I browsed for folder, point to drivers location, but this not work: after pointing to driver location(UsdbDriver folder with above mentioned files), then OK, it show empty dialog: http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4729/addnewhardw.jpg I tried also write driver files on floppy, same result. Thank you. |

The "drivers" you are attempting to install are for NT based systems, you need the development kit which also apparently includes a 9X driver, which I previously linked to. *IF* you were familiar with modifications of existing NT drivers for 9X usage you MIGHT be able to force a usage though likely not, as they are designed to work in conjunction with HAL and other aspects of the NT environment... -- ~ -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/windows-main.htm Windows Diagnostics, Security, Networking http://peoplescounsel.org The *REAL WORLD* of Law, Justice, and Government _______ |

Just dont want collect various garbage in system directory. -------------- Try looking in Control Panel System Device Manager Universal Serial/USB one of the lower driver/file combinations which indicate your device remove that... OR try starting in Safe Mode and looking in the same area. IF you're familiar with Windows, you can look in the INFs folder for the driver install file, open that, and see if an un-install section is included; OR use that [or the original extracted folder's] and manually walk through [remove] the files, folders, and registry/hive entries. I am curious though; did you actually LOOK at the various folders for the installation and what was contained within them? Often, the CLAIM is no support for 9X, when there may be a folder you need to direct to with the actual driver... [I didn't download the file you apparently used, so you will need to do the investigative work]... you're looking for [in the INFs] a section containing either "Chicago" or specific 98 entries. Do yourself a favor; since you are still installing things in the 9X OS, get yourself a monitoring program to use during installation so you can AVOID these issues. I use Total Uninstall, though there are numerous others to choose from. wrote in message ...
