Default Can't access Windows Explorer Tools/Options

Hello,

I have a stand alone 98 box that has been working fine
for some time. Suddenly, I started getting the following
message when I try to go to Tools/Options in Windows
Explorer: This operation has been cancelled due to
restrictions in effect on this computer

I've search through system policies and don't see
anything looks like it would affect Windows Explorer in
this way. I also don't know why or how any restrictions
could have been set. Are there any spyware/worm type
creations out there that could do this?

Can anyone help??

Thanks

First, try a reboot, just in case it is a quirk.

If that doesn't resolve it, look at

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 221486
OLEXP: Error Message: "Invalid Page Fault in Kernel32.dll" with Happy99.exe Virus
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;221486

Quote:
"When you try to perform various operations, you may receive the following message:

This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.
Please contact your system administrator."

If 221486 doesn't resolve it, run REGEDIT.

Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer.
If there is anything like 'NoClose', delete it and reboot.

Did you install Spybot Search & Destroy, and use the Immunize feature? That can
cause the symptom you describe, along with loss of Internet Options in IE Tools.
