Partition Magic
wanted to partition a friends hard drive with Norton Partition Magic 8 and
after the installation of the program, it (PM8) would not run. Got the splash screen then the following error: When I initialize the program I get this: Pmagic9x has cause an error in PMAGIC9X.EXE (caused divide error)Pmagic9x will now close. and when I click on okay it says this: Init failed: Error 20 The library or the partition is not open. Now I've rebooted and uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times. I searched the Symantec knowledge base without success. Any Ideas ? Thanks in afvance, BL |

Might try BootIt NG, instead. www.bootitng.com Use the download to create
the bootable installation disk, then boot to the disk. At the installation prompt, Cancel. This will drop you into Maintenance Mode. Choose Partition Work. No need to install BING just for this chore. I can't say for sure, but I would suspect that Norton PM isn't really well tailored to Win9x systems these days. -- Gary S. Thanks for the quick reply. Perhaps (I'm sure) I don't understand somting
here. I downloaded and made the boot disk and dropped to maintenance mode on my own PC to look at the program. The "create" option is greyed out. Am I corect in my reading the help file that I would reduce the size of an already created partition then when I click on the empty space left after reducing the size of the original partition, the "CREATE" choice will then be available to make the additional partition ? Yes, that's right. The buttons are contextual--only those operations that
are possible on the chosen partition or free space are enabled. First resize the existing partition(s), and then Create the new one in the resulting free space. -- Gary S. One cannot create a partition without available unused hard disk space...

EVERYTHING WORKED OUT WELL
Was able to reduce the size of the original HDD then create a partition with the unallocated space. Gee, tried to do that with the PM emergency disks but could only reduce the size of the original HD. Did not give me the option of creating another partition with the unallocated space. My friend had so many issues that I needed the extra partition to park an image of the HD so to be able to recover his old data when needed. I then did a fresh install of WIN98SE on the first partition. I then made a new image of the HD to the second partition. Once he gets the data off the second partition I will then delete the old HD image leaving only the fresh install image and then hide the partition in the event he messes up the system again (and he will, bless the old guy). I'll probably burn an image of the fresh install to CD also. Again, thanks for the help. BL "Gary S. Terhune" wrote in message ... Yes, that's right. Good news. FYI, you can burn images to CD using BING.
