when i left click on mouse it brings up menu,but it
doesn't stay up long enough for me to click on anything.
also when i double click on shortcuts it brings up the
properties box instead of opening the program. Please
help me.

The first thing to do is rule out a mechanical problem with your mouse--try
substituting another mouse on your system or use your mouse on another
system and see what happens.

One of your ALT keys on the keyboard is electronically "stuck". Tap each of them a
few times with verve, to try to free them. A reboot may also fix it. If it
persists, try a new keyboard.
