I was looking for a little more information than that - like size of drive,
amount of free space, number of files/folders, etc.!!!g At this point - I'd recommend against the /AUTO switch, in case of other problems. Once the scandisk is complete (with or without the switch), run the following commands from the DOS Prompt DEL C:\WIN386.SWP DEL C:\WINDOWS\WIN386.SWP (one of the above is likely to return a 'File not found' error - don't worry about it) DEL C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.* then reboot to Windows, and see if that's helped. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp "Rick T" wrote in message ... Ok ran the scandisk c:/surface and did the DEL 's too.
I didnt see anywhere that it told me how many files/folders etc. There were 1219838 clusters, unused 1849 and no problems found.... I then clicked on my C drive and then properties, and found Used 7.95 GB, free 10.6 GB If there is some other way to give you the info you asked for let me know and I'll get it for you. OK - that's more like it - you seems at least to be able to go into Windows
now. Are you still getting the error? did at least one of the WIN386.SWP deletions come back without an error message? When exactly does the error occur (if it still does)? Open MSCONFIG click on the System.ini tab look for the [386Enh] section - what's there? (specifically, look for the line 'Paging=', make sure it reads 'on', if present - There should be NO 'PagingDrive=' entry, and NO 'MaxPagingFileSize' or 'MinPagingFileSize' entry) Look for the [vcache] section - what's there? (should be nothing) Have you been using any 'system maintenance' utilities from third-party companies (Norton, etc)? while we're on the subject of maintenance - have you updated your antivirus recently, and run a full system scan of all files? (which AV?) Have you scanned for adware/spyware using a reputable cleaner? which one? If not, download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from your system. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp "Donna" wrote in message ... Yes the 2nd WIN386.SWP command worked... havent seen the error in the last
day or so... I'm not exactly sure when the error message displays.. if I see it again I'll take note. I didnt see any PAGING= closest thing is device=*dynapage no min/max nothing in vcache I use AVG anti virus... update it and run it daily I use Spyware blaster, Registry mechanic, Ad aware I was using zonealarm until I hooked up a router several days ago "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... IMHO, Registry Mechanic isn't worth the paper it's printed on, but YMMV.
