The letter that the CD drive is assigned shouldn't matter. What letter is
being assigned to the drive? What is the command you are using that isn't working? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "dilbert firestorm" wrote in message ... i have a plextor Px716A cd/dvd drive. Try starting the computer with a Windows 98 boot floppy.
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Tekram seems to have DOS drivers for the card on page 2 at http://www.tekram.com/down/scsi.asp?typeid=3 Ben "dilbert firestorm" wrote in message ... i have a plextor Px716A cd/dvd drive. A Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com may assign the letter R to the CD drive. If the boot disk installs a temporary Ram drive then the drive letter for the CD could be 1 higher than normal. ie: E: to F: Try D: and F and R for the install. You have indicated that the computer isn't seeing the Plextor drive as E:.
What letter is it seeing it as? If it's D, then this indicates the hard drive is not being recognised, perhaps because it's not partitioned correctly. You will need to fix the drive or fix the partitioning. If it's seeing it as something greater then E then this indicates you have more than one partition in the hard drive. In that case, there's no problem - just modify the commands you are using to start the installation to use the actual drive letter of the CD instead of E:. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "dilbert firestorm" wrote in message ... it isn't so much as the commands not working. I think it is seeing it, but its not reading. the drive light is blinking amber. the plextor cd/dvd drive did read the cd disc just that one time during the install, since then it won't read the disc after one of the installation steps (it'd say it can't find one of those *.cab files) nor can setup be accessed after booting. |

See the following about Plextor blink codes.

What command are you using to start the install, and what is the result?
Is there a message? If so, quote it exactly. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "dilbert firestorm" wrote in message ... snip the drive is on C:, the ram drive is D:, E: was supposed to be cd/dvd drive.
