Default Menus open slowly after boot up

Running WindowsMe and IE6Sp2.

I recently did some old program file removal, ran scan
disk (no errors) and defraged my hard drive.
Now after initial boot up (everything loads OK), I noticed
that upon clicking the Start button it takes 2-5 seconds
to display the start menu, and upon opening the Windows
Explorer, it takes 2-5 seconds to display all the folders.

After one or two rounds of this, everything opens as
quickly as it normally use to and is fine until shut down
and a new boot up
...
Any ideas as to what is causing this and how to repair?

Thanks in advance.

Firstly - there is NO IE6SP2 for Win ME - it's either IE6SP1, or IE5.5SP2 -
which is yours?

Try a repair of IE
Reboot to Safe Mode
Go to Add/Remove Programs and try a repair of Internet Explorer from there.
Go to the entry for 'Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools'
in Add/Remove Programs
Click on Remove - and click on Repair on the window that pops up
Reboot on request to Normal Mode

If the above entry isn't there, you first need to uninstall all the patches
applied, then do the repair, then reapply the patches
The patches are listed in Add/Remove under the names 'Internet Explorer
Qxxxxxx'
highlight, click Remove - reboot if requested.
Repeat until the MSIE6SP1 entry appears - then repair as above.
