Default Registry key to point to drivers

I remember that you could load all the various windows drivers onto
the harddrive. There was some registry key to point to these drivers
so when windows looked for a driver it would find the driver on the
harddrive instead of asking for you to enter the path to the driver.

Memory has played you false. The Windows
Instal routines write into the Registry the filepaths
for certain drivers (possibly not all) either because
they were on installation in the default locations or
else you /Browsed to them. But you can always
/Browse somewhere else: because nothing can
guarantee that the right filepath this year will be
the same as it was two years ago. (E.g. for convenience
I keep a copy of the instal CD /Win98 and /Drivers
directories on HDD H: but I moved them a while ago
to drive G: and the Registry cannot know this.)

You can copy the Win98 folder on the Windows CD to your HD. All you
need is that folder, not the whole CD. Then Start Run and enter
Regedit.

Thanks Bill.
