OK Harry,
Well, first, unless it's something I'm unaware of, Ahead don't actually make the drive, just the CD Mastering software. Otherwise, I use Nero myself (and InCD - which comes with Nero - just very rarely these days because I finally came round to thinking that UDF isn't reliable enough to be worth the bother). I have sworn by Nero for several years and use it regularly! But it sets one or two items to run at Startup that are entirely unnecessary. That's my definition of 'junk' here. Nothing whatsoever of Ahead's needs to run at Startup. I simply disable it from the get-go. I won't be moving to Nero 7 though. I reckon it easily meets the definition of 'bloat' now. The problem is that all these companies feel they have to continually develop their product - it reminds me of the guy in the beginning of Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (the book!) who wants to knock Arthur Dent's house down because "Bypasses have to be built!". Funny. I know they *do* have to continually develop their product, because even if they'd reached the apex and decided to go into something else, leaving Nero 'available but matured', other companies would make CD Mastering software and hype it, and people would buy theirs rather than the perfect Ahead version, because 'it's newer, therefore it's better!' The public believes "Bypasses have to be built!" too, doesn't it. BTW, in case I was unclear, InCD should be removed from Startup too! Shane "webster72n" wrote in message ... I am still checking things out, Shane, but it may turn out that I was correct in eliminating Nero from startup instead of InCD, even though it happened because of my impatience, not looking any further down the line. Will get back on that when I'm finished. Why do you consider some of Nero's ware junk? The CD/DVD Combo drive I have is really nice. Harry. |

Thank you, Shane: Everything you describe(d) is clear, including the fact that Ahead is the software supplier only (see original post). Why do I feel so much better after talking to you? Harry.
