Missing support files

put finger to keyboard and composed: Here's where I am.....I copied the CD to a flash drive. I can load the program from the flash drive, so assume you are correct in thinking the CD drive is faulty. I ran a Nero speed test on the drive (24x) and it comes up at about 10x. I also ran the test on another machine and it came up slower, but I can load the CD on it. Before I buy another drive (unfortunately not a standard size, Dell SFF) I am wondering if this is related to spin-up speed rather than running speed? Any opinion on that? Thanks.. I'd copy all the files to your HD once again and time the transfer. Then calculate your system's transfer rate in KB/s and divide by 150 KB/s. This should give you an average speed rating. A speed of 10X would be about 1.5 MB/s. Depending on the age of your hardware, this may reflect the limits of your motherboard's IDE controller rather than your CDROM drive. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

In addition to the others: It may also relate to the buffer memory installed ON the CDROM drive. The issue normally crops up when burning a disk, but is also found when copying/installing, i.e., CD intensive usage. A minor "fluctuation" in DMA, CPU, system memory and/or other during the process and the drive may seem to or actually fail during the activity. CDROM caching software and settings were the "one time" suggested solution. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com -- _________ "Franc Zabkar" wrote in message ... | On Sat, 12 Jul 2008 11:30:00 -0700, CommandLineJunkie | put finger to keyboard | and composed: | | Here's where I am.....I copied the CD to a flash drive.
