Finally found the culprit - 'internate.exe'.
I have removed it (internate.exe) from Start Up and so far so good - no
'indicator' message. My virus / malware is kept up to date and is run
regularly and has not shown any threats, so I hope that in my case it
(internate.exe) is not a virus, spyware, trojan or worm as some

information
suggests. Should 'internate.exe' be deleted from my system just to be

sure.

As Mark indicated, you maust have had malware of some kind.
There is an "Internat.Exe." application in ME, but "Internate.Exe." should
definitely be "extinguished" by any means possible.

Virus? malware?? - have you run a recent (up to date) virus checker?

The only other suggestions I can think of is to do a 'Search' in Windows
Explorer for the string "indicator" (no quotes!) and see if you are able

to
locate a file/folder with the word "indicator" in its title. Google

doesn't
offer to much help either, with some 84.7 million hits for the word
'indicator' g

Anything you've done recently (added new software?) which might have

this
"utility"?

If it only started to happen very recently (past seven days or so) try
running System Restore and roll back to a date BEFORE the error report
started to appear.

No luck with Add and Remove Programs.
No Luck with msconfig. There isn't 'indicator' in either of these
suggestions.

Windows Me does not have a program or utility called "indicator" so

You could try looking in Add and Remove Programs (in Control Panel)

and
see
if you can find and details - or even Remove it!.

Also you see what might be running at Startup to decide whether you

need
all
the applications running then. To see this, in Normal Mode, run the
System
Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe) as follows :-

Start | Run type "msconfig" (no quotes) in the 'Open' box then press

the
Return key.
Choose the 'Startup' tab and see if you find any application called
"indicator" and disable it by unchecking the tick box.

N.B. - use caution when playing with the System Configuration

Utility.
Always make sure that you've set a System Restore point before you

start.
If
things go wrong, you can always restore back to the starting point

again.

Good luck

Thank you for all your help. The file on my computer that caused the
'indicator' is internat.exe (no E) - my spelling mistake.
Thanks again

However, a Google search for "internate.exe" revealed :-

which does make it look as though you may have had malware (troj_lineage.c)
after all.

Try Trend's solution (near bottom of page) to remove it.

You've done most of the work yourself, Amelia, but you're welcome.
Obviously your pc had an "infection" and hopefully there are no remnants.
You may want to check in order to be sure, by using "Search".

Harry.

I'm pleased that you've fixed the 'indicator' issue Amelia, but do now begin
to wonder if you really did actually have a Trojan.

If the file was in fact a 'clean' copy of the original MS internat.exe
(v.4.90.1000 0, 49,152 bytes @ 08 June 200 1700), a text reader inspection
of the file itself does reveal several instances of the word 'indicator' and
the phrase 'Application already running' (in several languages!). I also
suspect that the file is associated with things like keyboard indicator
lights and certain indicator icons on the task bar. However, that doesn't
explain why it was in your Start-up folder. (It should have only been in the
Windows\System folder)

Maybe that's another story - and perhaps one of life's little mysteries g

Well done anyway and thanks for the feedback.

Mart
