iE 6 fresh install problems

Due to some problems I had to do a fresh install of WINME on a Gateway
P3. After the install i loaded the MicroSoft Security patch CD. That
installed all the security patches through Feb 2004 including installing
IE version 6 (I assume over 5.5 that came with WINME). When I first
connected to the Internet I get an error message and can't load any web
pages. it says to check browser settings. What could be the problem with
a fresh install of both the OS and browser?

Ron,

When you say " a fresh install " do you mean that you used the Gateway
Rescue/Restore disc or an MS Win ME one ?
If it was the OEM version than it's likely that it also installed a
trial version of Norton or another AV. Having the AV running when
installing the Security CD may have caused an issue when IE installed.
Please post which version of Windows you installed for further assistance.
