IE6 Re-Installation Issues
I've got a WinME machine that had real bad hesitation between pages when
browsing the web. The machine has been thoroughly cleaned (temp files, etc), is free from any viruses, adware, spyware, and malware. It runs well with the above exception. I uninstalled IE6 (which takes it back to IE5.5) hoping I could reinstall IE6 and correct the problem. However, now IE6 fails on the reinstall and claims it needs rebooted to continue. I've tried rebooting, running setup from scratch, and telling the install to resume. Nothing is working. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

Try this : Create a folder in My Documents and name it IEBak. Using
Windows Explorer, navigate to Progam Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information Move the CONTENTS of that folder to IEBak. DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER. Temp disable your antivirus software or, boot to Safe Mode ( if you've downloaded the entire IE setup package ) and install IE . If it installs, delete the IEBak folder. If not, move the contents of IEBak to their original location. Delete the IEBak folder. Post the ENTIRE error message you are receiving if you can not resolve the issue doing the above . Error Message When You Try to Install Internet Explorer 6.0: A Previous Installation Has Pending Work Requiring a Reboot http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=309314 " A previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running internet explorer setup. Setup will now close." That did the trick. Thanks!!! A side note for anybody reading this with the
same issue, make sure you turn on the ability to view hidden and system files before you try to move the contents of the folder listed below. You're welcome, SIT. Good point about enabling Hidden files and folders.
Glad the issue is resolved. MowGreen [MVP] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== StuckInTime wrote: That did the trick. Thanks!!!
